oh thank god we’re outdoors again. Finally, anything goes color-wise. On paper, Hammer finally acknowledging the lemur seemed like a natural escalation of his prior behavior (staring at giant creepy lemur statue, being visibly distracted by the creepy lemur painting) but idk if that really worked. The lemurs show up all over the comic, either in flesh or in material format, and I felt like they had to be acknowledged somehow, but maybe it would have been funnier if they’d just chilled in the background the entire time. Also this can read as Hammer treating the lemur as the shopkeeper, which raises its own questions. What’s really going down in this town? How much does Hammer know??

Anyway, this page makes me happy. In the original script, Rei was actually the one sharing his food with Hammer, but that meant there really wasn’t a whole lot of back and forth between them. I wanted Hammer to contribute to this mess too, dammit. I don’t think he was really aware that he was flirting, just being nice because he wanted to be, but you know, give Rei an inch. Von being a cheerleader isn’t helping.

Sketch Rei’s baby face in the first panel is so funny to me oh my god. Also, I like the hands on this page!
